Building in the Funchal centre, Drapes Design

The Drapes Design Apartments are a great place to stay in Madeira. We did have a few problems. When we arrived, it was a bit of a disaster. None of the codes worked on the front door or the apartments. We had 9 people, with all our luggage, standing on the busy street while we worked this out. Luckily the emergency number we called had some one that figured out the codes fairly quickly. After 20 minutes of confusion, we managed to get into our units. Next problem was the overflowing garbage on the top floor deck. I sent a note to the team and it was cleaned up the following day. Third was the front door to the busy street wasn't closing completely. It would close, but if you pushed on the door, it would open. A lady at the bus stop outside showed this to me. Would I stay here again? I definitely would! I so wanted to give a 5 star rating. The apartments were great, location fantastic and roof top deck a game changer. I just hope they can clean up some of these issues.

Overall good place but check in was a bit of a nightmare - took us 35-40 minutes to get codes to the building that worked. Each unit has a different code and we were only given one code to the entire building initially that didn’t work so I had to call support and then message the host and received 10 different versions of six sets of codes that we had to then try on each unit. Felt like an escape room and with 9 people and a million suitcases on a busy street was quite stressful.

Rented the entire building for a family NYE vacation and here is how it went. The Good: - Great location: perfect for NYE fireworks and right near plenty of bus spots. Perfectly located to walk to all of Funchal’s hotspots and parking garage right next door that’s reasonably priced to store a rental car. There is street parking as well all within a really short walk. - A clothes washer and DRYER which is a big value in Europe. - The apartments are well designed and decorated with full kitchens and supplies. The Not So Good: - The outdoor kitchen area and one of the apartments on the 3rd floor had an ant problem. In the outdoor kitchen you couldn’t have food out without a cover for more than a couple minutes before it was swarmed and in the third floor apartment they appeared to be possibly coming in from a service panel and clustered on the walls. We had to buy spray to manage it. - Plan around not having extra towels, blankets, or pillows if you a small family (2 adults with a kid)

This was a mixed review stay so I’ll outline both in transparency. We rented the entire building so got to check out all the offerings from this property. The good: -The location is so well designed and the roof top deck is nice. Perfect location for NYE fireworks. -The unit has a clothes washer and DRYER which is a value. - The location is perfect for catching the bus, walking to the hot spots of Funchal and has parking if you get a car across the street in a garage which is reasonably priced. - All units have a kitchen with all you need and with a fridge and dishwasher - HVAC systems work well if you want to use them. - Plenty of windows and natural light. The bad: - One of the apartments during the stay had ants all over the walls in some places. The outdoor area had ants as well (if you made food you had a few minute before they swarmed it outside). We had to get some spray and manage it ourselves. The apartment seemed to be handled but we couldn’t get ahead of the outside kitchen area ants. No other apartments were effected but that one on the third floor. - This is not a hotel like place so plan accordingly. There are no extra blankets, pillows, or towels so if you are a family of three (2 adults with small child) plan time to do laundry or don’t rely on extra towel if you plan on hitting the lidos.
